Hypnosis for Pain

hypnosis for pain management

For many of us, pain can be challenging to deal with, whether it is acute, continual or chronic. When we experience pain, we first consider grabbing painkillers to alleviate the discomfort. Painkillers are okay for short-term pain, but if used continuously, they can become another problem, causing unwanted side effects or, in the worst case, addiction.

Understanding the different ways pain can be classified:

Duration: Pain can be acute, chronic, or breakthrough:

  • Acute pain: A temporary response to tissue injury that can vary in intensity.
  • Chronic pain: Pain that lasts 12 weeks or more and can resist medical treatment.
  • Breakthrough pain: Episodes of acute pain that occur while taking medication to manage chronic pain

Source: Pain can be caused by tissue damage, nerve damage, or changes in how the nervous system processes pain:

  • Nociceptive pain: Caused by tissue damage or inflammation and can feel sharp, pricking, dull, or aching. Examples include pain from a paper cut, a broken bone, or osteoarthritis.
  • Neuropathic pain: Caused by nerve damage, and can feel burning, tingling, shooting, or like electric shocks. Examples include diabetic neuropathy, shingles, and sciatica.
  • Nociplastic pain: Caused by changes in how the nervous system processes pain and can have a wide range of sensations. Examples include fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, and chronic low back pain.

Other types of pain:

  • Phantom pain: Pain that feels like it’s coming from a body part that’s no longer there.
  • Psychogenic pain: Caused by psychological factors like stress, anxiety, or depression.

There is a real option available:
Hypnotherapy

We often associate hypnotherapy with weight loss or quitting smoking, but it has a host of other benefits, including resolving the reason for your pain—whether real or imagined. Hypnosis for pain is an effective and natural alternative to traditional pain management techniques.

How can hypnosis help with pain management?
Stress and anxiety are common with pain, and tension can make it worse. Hypnosis for pain helps you ignore the stress and tension triggers and decrease or eliminate the pain completely.

Migraines, in particular, can be debilitating and difficult to treat. They can be caused by stress or common triggers such as hormonal changes, lack of sleep, certain foods, and changes in the weather. They are often accompanied by symptoms such as nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and prolonged discomfort. Conventional Hypnotherapy provides relief by focusing on relaxation techniques and visualisation; however, it does not resolve the reason/cause of the migraine. At Perth Hypnosis Clinic, hypnosis for pain can help resolve the reason/cause of that migraine, allowing sufferers to gain a sense of control and comfort in their daily lives.

Remember, we’re not trying to convince you that your pain doesn’t exist, but rather allowing it to become more manageable—and in many cases, the pain can be alleviated entirely. Hypnosis for pain helps reduce stress and relaxes the nervous system, making it less reactive to pain. This natural therapy technique is beneficial and has no side effects, making it an effective tool for all pain management.
