Quick facts:
The National Drug Strategy Household Survey (for 2013), showed smoking rate among adults was 13.3%. There is a tobacco-related death about every 28 minutes in Australia, and that is about roughly 50 deaths each day.
Effects of smoking:The ill-effects of smoking are well known and documented—though the smoker will never admit it -making excuses, covering up, or denying the truth—anything from heart and lung diseases, poor digestion, hypertension, pulmonary disease, emphysema, strokes to cancer and many others. People who quit smoking, no doubt, report healthy savings and healthy lifestyle.
How does Hypnosis work?
Hypnosis works with the therapist giving suggestions to the unconscious mind once the client is in a hypnotic trance state. These suggestions can be direct, indirect or metaphorical. All suggestions are aimed at the client having no desire or need to smoke after the session.
For a suggestion to be accepted by the client, the client must like the suggestion. It is near impossible to have the client do anything they don’t want to. Even though they are in trance, they can still choose whether to accept any suggestion made by the therapist.
For hypnosis to be effective, the client must want to stop smoking.
The need, crave, or want for a cigarette is an emotion that comes from the unconscious. It does not come from conscious, otherwise a person would just decide not to smoke anymore – and they wouldn’t. It would be so easy for everyone to stop whenever they felt like it and they would be in complete control.
Hypnosis has a higher success rate in helping people quit smoking compared to cold turkey, nicotine replacement, nicotine gums, drugs, behaviour therapy and acupuncture. Hypnosis has a success rate higher than 85%, according to reliable studies.
The other modalities used to stop smoking do not address the reasons a person smokes – hypnosis does and hypnosis addresses the smoking triggers – that is why it is so effective.
